Title: Ying Yun
Year: 2021
Medium:
Dimensions: 2 hours participatory event, sculpture 60x55x27 cm
Description:
A participatory ritual event. The transformation of the fire and water energy illustrates the transcendence of material and spiritual, as well as conscious and subconscious. “Ying Yun” originated from the I Ching, an ancient Chinese deviation. The quoted text expresses that all elements are refined in the misty chaos of Ying and Yang, just like the coition birth life. I receive the blessing and express my gratitude to my ancestors through this ritual.
During the ritual, the changes in three states of water embody the impermanence of existence. It transcends the present space and time of the viewers and myself to unknown dimensions and blurs the boundary of life and death.
Burning wood and charcoal heat the stones, and release the stream of water into the air. All of the above enter my body through breath and wash off the ink on my skin. The vessal is made of sand, lime, and water without glue. It is inspired by the local geological formation of the coast and embeds the found shells and washed off the broken reef.
